Workshop // Bookbinding: Leather and Gold Tooling

Join the Library Society’s conservation team to dive further into the aspects of hand bookbinding. Starting with a raw framework, students will be instructed on the techniques and practices working with leather for the cover and the process of detailing it with traditional gold foil. Discussions will focus on the history of the trade of bookbinding and established conservation techniques for preserving books within our libraries and museums.
All materials will be provided, and no prior experience is necessary. Please wear closed-toed shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting a little messy, or bring an apron if you have one.
