Carolina Heroism at the Dawn of Liberty

June 24 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

$10.00 – $15.00

Carolina Day, celebrated on June 28th each year, marks the anniversary of the Battle of Sullivan’s Island fought on June 28, 1776, where a small group of South Carolina Patriots successfully repelled a British naval force. As a runway to next year’s celebration of America’s 250th birthday, we are partnering with SC250 to delve deeper into South Carolina Revolutionary lore through a series of late eighteenth-century tales, with this first installment featuring history buff Norm Rickeman, and an analysis into his book Unsung: William Moultrie and the Battle of Sullivan’s Island. Examining the critical point that was the Battle of Sullivan’s Island, Rickeman relives a tumultuous time in South Carolina history through the lens of the man who successfully defended Charleston during the Revolutionary War. Significant as it was and still is, this pivotal battle is not widely explored in the way Rickeman honors the unsung heroes of one of the most complex and nuanced moments in America’s history.
