Pub Day with Ted Dintersmith // ‘Aftermath’

March 24 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Event Series (See All)
$25.00 – $45.00

Odds are, you have little interest in a talk about ‘math.’  That said, we are honored to invite you to change the way you think about math – and life – with the pub day debut of Aftermath, a provocative new book by Author, National Education Association “Friend of Education” award-winner and CLS member Ted Dintersmith. In conversation with author, radio host, CLS Trustee, and parent Gervais Hagerty, Dintersmith will illuminate the fascinating and powerful math ideas that make or break our lives – ideas absent from the rote math taught at all levels of education.

If you are unable to attend the event, but would like to purchase one or more copies, please visit Buxton Books.

About the Book

Whether you loved or loathed high-school math, Aftermath will change how you think about math–and life. Forget rote math’s dry formulas and abstract symbols. This book illuminates the fascinating math ideas that are essential to you and your loved ones–ideas totally ignored in school.

About the Author

Ted Dintersmith is focused on the impact of education and innovation on civil society. Professionally, he was ranked as the top-performing U.S. venture capitalist for 1995-1999. His Sundance-acclaimed films, top-selling books, and keynotes call for our schools to actually prepare kids for life.  He’s a past recipient of NEA’s prestigious “Friend of Education” Award, with past recipients including Thurgood Marshall and LBJ. His way-too-many years in school culminated in an Engineering PhD from Stanford. A bit of trivia, Ted organized the 2007 Charleston fundraiser for Barack Obama that made its way into the newly-elected President’s ‘porches of Charleston’ Grant Park acceptance speech. When he’s not visiting schools, he lives in Mount Pleasant.

About Gervais Hagerty

Gervais Hagerty Del Porto grew up in Charleston. After a career in broadcast journalism, she taught communications to cadets at The Citadel. She now hosts a weekly show on OHM Radio, teaches creative writing, and writes novels inspired by her hometown. She’s also a newly minted board member of the Charleston Library Society.
