About the Book
Step inside This Oak House, a thoughtfully renovated historic home in Los Angeles. What began as Annie Meyers-Shyer’s personal Instagram evolved into a trusted resource for candid renovation insight and refined design. In this book, with the foreword by design director (and mother) Nancy Meyers, she opens her doors for the first time—sharing original plans, sketches, mood boards, paint colors, and practical lessons learned—offering both inspiration and guidance for creating a timeless, livable home.
About the Author
Annie Meyers-Shyer is the creator behind This Oak House, where she shares the story of her family’s home renovation and her approach to thoughtful design and living. Her work celebrates the connection between beauty and function, showing how craftsmanship and details can shape a home that feels both timeless and lived in. Through This Oak House, she’s built a community that values authenticity, craftsmanship, and the stories found in the making of a home. Her first book, forthcoming in 2026, continues that conversation, offering a closer look at how design can hold memory, meaning, and time.
About the Moderator
Sarah-Hamlin Hastings is the owner and principal designer of Fritz Porter Design Collective in Charleston, SC. She began her career at Elle Decor magazine before moving into interior design. After attending the New York School of Interior Design, she worked for the esteemed firms Cullman and Kravis, Stiles Colwill Interiors, and John Rosselli Associates before starting out on her own. A move from the New York/Connecticut area back to her hometown of Charleston, South Carolina opened her eyes to the fact that the Southeast was sorely lacking in design resources. She started Fritz Porter Design Collective in 2015 to fill that void. Today the Fritz Porter showroom represents over 35 boutique textile, wallpaper, furniture, and rug lines from all over the world and offers full interior decorating services. Sarah-Hamlin is a staunch advocate for craftsmanship, preservation, and the arts. She has served on the 1858 Society of the Gibbes Museum, The PreserVisionists, Charleston Animal Society Board, and is a current Board member at Historic Charleston Foundation. She recently launched a podcast called Once Upon A Design to help tell the stories behind the many creatives and talented craftspeople in the design community. When she is not at the showroom or in the podcast studio, Sarah-Hamlin likely has her nose in a good novel, is attempting to cook something too complicated, or is playing referee between her four boys, her husband, and their beloved but mischievous dogs. She splits her time between the Navy Yard in North Charleston, Folly Beach, and the mountains of Virginia.
