As a long-serving U.S. Senator\, Lamar leaves a legacy spanning politics\, education leadership\, and public service that has shaped both education policy\, public spaces\, and community programs. As the 5th U.S. Secretary of Education\, he championed the “America 2000” initiative and later advanced federal legislation for the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015 and the 2018 Education Next+1\, which expanded accountability to improve student outcomes. Lamar Alexander’s career in education leadership —through federal\, state\, and legislative roles—has had a lasting impact on American schools and public institutions\, through infrastructure investment and public service priorities. \nPurchase Tickets HERE! \nAbout Lamar Alexander \nLamar Alexander has long been known as one of America’s most principled and effective statesmen. As US Senator\, Alexander shepherded major laws that today govern K–12 education\, medical innovation\, and maintenance of our national parks. Former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said\, “For eighteen years\, there was Lamar Alexander\, and there was the rest of us. He was hands-down one of the most brilliant\, most thoughtful\, and most effective legislators any of us have ever seen.” As governor\, Alexander brought the auto industry to Tennessee and made it the first state to pay teachers more for teaching well. He was chairman of the Senate Republican Conference\, the nation’s governors\, and of President Reagan’s “Commission on Americans Outdoors.” He served as US Education Secretary and as a university president. \nAlexander was also known for campaigning in a plaid shirt and performing on the piano with twenty-seven symphonies and on the Grand Ol’ Opry. He graduated from Vanderbilt University and New York University Law School. He and his late wife Honey were married for fifty-four years\, had four children and nine grandchildren. His parents were teachers. A seventh generation Tennessean\, Alexander lives in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains near Maryville where he grew up. \nAbout the Bond Street REIT Speaker Series \nOrchestrated by Founder and Chief Executive Officer\, Michael D. His research into the Battle of Sullivan’s Island led to the publication of his findings and the creation of Thomson Park at Breach Inlet. A fellow of the Southern Campaigns of the American Revolution\, he served on the board of the South Carolina Historical Society and chaired the Fort Sumter – Fort Moultrie Historical Trust. He was a founding trustee of the South Carolina American Revolution Trust and co-founder of SC250 Charleston. MacIntyre earned a B.S. degree from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and served five years in the U.S. Army. He earned a M.S. degree in Business Administration with honors from Boston University and completed advanced management programs at Harvard and Stanford. His business career spanned the spectrum from startups to the Fortune 500 before he retired to Charleston in 2004. As president and CEO\, he led technology companies through formation\, global expansion\, public offerings\, mergers\, and acquisitions. He served on industry and civic boards and was president of the American Software Association.

Regina’s journey spans Natchez\, the Alaska wilderness\, Paris\, San Francisco\, Minneapolis\, New York\, and back to Natchez. Often hailed as the “Queen of Biscuits\,” she transformed her hometown of Natchez into the “Biscuit Capital of the World.” Chef Regina is so much more than biscuits\, though. In her fifty-year career as a Chef\, she has authored four cookbooks and opened her acclaimed San Francisco establishments\, Regina’s at the Regis and Biscuit and Blues\, as well as Kings Tavern and Regina’s Kitchen in Natchez. She is also known for her influence on the cuisine of the American Queen riverboats\, which inspired her book “Mississippi Current”. No matter where she’s traveled and cooked\, her food and hospitality has always had a touch of that Southern accent. At this course of her life\, she now shares her passion for food and entertaining by hosting guests at her cooking school\, Regina’s Kitchen in Natchez. She considers this the dessert course of her life. Regina’s impact on the culinary world is undeniable. She has been featured in prominent food publications\, including The New York Times\, Better Homes and Gardens\, and Southern Living. Regina has appeared on NBC and ABC affiliates\, The Today Show\, and the Hallmark Channel\, and has been showcased on Andrew Zimmerman’s Bizarre Foods.

The book reveals how Lafayette\, born in 1757 into an aristocratic French family of warriors\, traveled to the colonies at the age of nineteen to fight as a volunteer in the Revolutionary War. Continental Army Major General Lafayette was soon embraced by George Washington and Thomas Jefferson\, who became his lifelong friends. A fearless\, accomplished battlefield commander\, Lafayette also helped to convince the French court to provide crucial financial and military support to the Americans\, which immeasurably aided the defeat of the British. On his return to France\, Lafayette played a leading role in the movement to make France a constitutional monarchy. He served as commander of the National Guard during the French Revolution\, and as a member of the Chamber of Deputies\, opposed Napoleon’s rule. His latest book\, The Unlikely War Hero\, a slice-of-life biography of Doug Hegdahl\, the youngest and lowest-ranking American POW held in North Vietnam\, was published in December 2024. A former staff writer for Congressional Quarterly in Washington\, D.C.\, he has written for many magazines and newspapers\, including Preservation\, Smithsonian\, Military History\, Civil War Times\, the Washington Post\, New York Times\, New York Times Book Review\, and The Wall Street Journal. He has also written entries for the Encyclopedia Britannica\, Encyclopedia Americana\, and the Dictionary of Virginia Biography. He is Senior Writer\, Arts Editor\, and columnist for The VVA Veteran\, the magazine published by Vietnam Veterans of America. From 2008-2015\, he taught U.S. history at Laurel Ridge Community College in Warrenton\, Virginia. Marc Leepson graduated from George Washington University in 1967.
