SUMMARY:The Duchess of Windsor Revisited
DESCRIPTION:A topic both fascinating and polarizing\, the story of the Duchess of Windsor\, Wallis Simpson\, is in the limelight once again. Join acclaimed Royal biographer Hugo Vickers for a relaunch of Behind Closed Doors\, the true story of the Duchess of Windsor. Ahead of the film due out later this year starring Isabella Rossellini and Joan Collins\, this illuminating and moving portrait of the Duchess brings a new perspective\, particularly in her later years after the Duke’s death. Using previously unpublished papers and other personal testaments\, Vickers paints a resonant portrait of a complex and tragic icon and reveals the truth behind her final years. \nIf you are unable to attend the event\, but would like to purchase one or more copies\, please visit Buxton Books. \nAbout the Book \nAn illuminating and moving portrait of Wallis Simpson\, the Duchess of Windsor\, in her later years after the Duke’s death. The true story behind the film The Duchess and I\, starring Isabella Rossellini and Joan Collins. Acclaimed biographer Hugo Vickers holds an encyclopedic knowledge of the Royal Family\, but his fascination with the Duchess of Windsor runs deeper\, going back to his own youth. Long misunderstood\, the Duchess of Windsor and her story have both fascinated and polarized. While there have been many books about the doomed couple\, Behind Closed Doors brings a new perspective to Wallis\, specifically by focusing on the later years of exile. While Vickers has his own theories about the Abdication itself—and he makes it very clear that Wallis did not lure the King from the throne—the drama of this narrative comes from the criminal exploitation of an old\, sick woman after the death of her husband. Readers will be shocked by the ruthless French lawyer known as Suzanne Blum and come to understand how the Duchess’s precarious position\, once she was widowed\, only added to her plight. Her once-glamorous life quickly spiralled into one of desperation and fear. \nAbout the Author \nHugo Vickers is well known as a biographer\, lecturer\, and broadcaster\, and is an acknowledged expert on the Royal Family. His first book was about Gladys Deacon\, Duchess of Marlborough (1881-1977)\, in whom he became interested when he was 16 years old. When he was 23\, he found the Duchess in the psycho-geriatric ward of a mental hospital and talked to her for two years until her death at the age of 96. He researched in Europe and America and published Gladys\, Duchess of Marlborough in 1979. Because there was considerably more material available 40 years on\, he revised this book for a new edition\, published in 2020\, as The Sphinx (and paperback in 2021). It received positive reviews. Hugo is called upon to comment on important state occasions and at times when the Royal Family is in the news. He has covered events from the first wedding of the Prince of Wales\, many royal weddings\, and the funerals of Diana\, the Queen Mother\, Prince Philip\, the State Funeral and Committal of The Queen\, and the Coronation of Charles III. The Financial Times has described him as: ‘the most knowledgeable royal biographer on the planet.’ When he spent an hour with Jacqueline Onassis in her office at Doubleday in 1990\, she said to him: ‘You look like a poet\, but your head must be full of information.’ Hugo has written many biographies of 20th century figures\, including Cecil Beaton\, Vivien Leigh\, the Duchess of Windsor\, Princess Andrew of Greece\, and the Queen Mother. His book\, The Quest for Queen Mary\, sold 40\,000 copies in various forms. He attacked the sixty episodes of the Netflix series The Crown – in his book\, The Crown Dissected\, available as an e-book. In May 2021\, he published Malice in Wonderland\, with extracts from his own diaries about researching the life of Cecil Beaton. A year later\, he published a book with HRH The Duke of Kent\, entitled A Royal Life. In 2023\, he updated his 2013 book\, Coronation\, and has lectured about it in London\, New York\, Washington\, Boston\, San Francisco\, and Sonoma. That year\, he gave 44 lectures\, with four trips to the USA. Hugo published his first novel\, Pining in Paradise\, a study of the super-rich on holiday at the Cipriani Hotel in Venice in 2024. Later that year\, he published his biography of Clarissa\, Countess of Avon (widow of Anthony Eden). When not writing\, Hugo travels through the Commonwealth and Overseas Territories\, establishing Commonwealth Walkways\, and as such has visited many countries from Australia\, New Zealand\, and Canada\, to the Cook Islands\, the Falklands\, and\, as he puts it\, was once obliged to spend seven weeks touring the Caribbean. In July 2022\, Prince Edward unveiled the Platinum Jubilee Walkway in Birmingham. Queen Elizabeth II visited the Walkways eight times when he was Chairman. Hugo is a Deputy Lieutenant for the Royal County of Berkshire and has been involved with the College of St George since February 1966. He is Captain of the Lay Stewards of St George’s Chapel\, Windsor Castle\, having served as a Lay Steward since 1970. In 2019\, he was appointed a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society. Hugo has lectured in the UK\, the USA\, Australia\, France\, Italy\, Denmark and the Bahamas – in the King’s Gallery at Buckingham Palace\, at Windsor Castle\, in Marlborough House\, Kensington Palace\, St James’s Palace\, Spencer House\, Blenheim Palace\, and the British Embassy in Paris – as well as on board transatlantic liners and many a village hall. He appeared frequently on Larry King Live between 1997 and 2005\, and had his Andy Warhol moment of fame when he appeared with Stephen Colbert in his programme\, My Fair Colbert\, about the 2011 royal wedding. He lives in London and Wiltshire and has three grown-up children. When possible\, he disappears to a tree house in Dominica.

SUMMARY:Classified Docs // When to Release\, or Not?
DESCRIPTION:Along with the World Affairs Council of Charleston\, we are pleased to host acting historian for the Department of State\, John Powers to share about his impressive 34-year career working with government records and the ins and outs of safeguarding national security information. From the declassification of Richard Nixon’s and LBJ’s secret tapes to the work done on the JFK Assassination Records Collection\, Powers will share stories about his time at the National Archives\, the Department of State\, and the White House\, in documenting U.S. covert action and the history of America’s diplomacy in the Foreign Relations of the United States series. Under his leadership\, the Department has published seven volumes on the foreign policies of the Carter\, Reagan\, and George H.W. Bush administrations. \nThis program is in partnership with the World Affairs Council of Charleston.  \nAbout John Powers \nJohn Powers is a 30-year public servant who joined the State Department in August 2023 to lead the Office of the Historian’s declassification\, publication\, and digital initiatives programs. He has served as the Acting Director of the Office since April 2025. In that role\, he is responsible for leading a staff of 70 historians\, information professionals\, contractors\, and retired/rehired part-time Foreign Service officers. John oversees process reforms that facilitate more cost-effective and efficient publication of the Foreign Relations of the United States series\, the comprehensive and official documentary record of major U.S. foreign policy decisions and significant diplomatic activity that has been published since 1861. Before joining the Department\, John served as the Associate Director for Classification Management in the Information Security Oversight Office at the National Archives and Records Administration. His directorate was responsible for advising Government agencies on policies for classifying\, declassifying\, and safeguarding national security information. Under his leadership\, the Board published five reports to the President\, including A Vision for the Digital Age: Modernization of the U.S. National Security Classification and Declassification System (2020)\, and a report to Congress on the feasibility of declassifying records related to U.S. nuclear weapons testing and cleanup activities in the Marshall Islands. John served twice at the White House on the National Security Council staff as the Director for Access and Information Management. He led a team responsible for reviewing and declassifying White House and NSC records for public access\, including records for the Department of State’s Foreign Relations of the United States series and records related to President Kennedy’s assassination. He conceived of and led the U.S. Declassification Project for Argentina that involved 16 other departments and agencies and led to the declassification of almost 50\,000 pages of records in 2019. John started his career in 1991 as an archives aide at the Richard Nixon Presidential Materials Project\, eventually serving as acting director in 2007. He reviewed Nixon’s secret tapes for public access and served as an expert government witness in the Nixon v. U.S. civil compensation suit. He spent two years at the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library declassifying LBJ’s secret recordings. John has a B.A. in International Relations from the College of William and Mary and an M.A. in American History from George Mason University. He speaks German and Italian and enjoys traveling in his free time. \nAbout the World Affairs Council \nThe World Affairs Council of Charleston (WACC)\, formerly the Charleston Foreign Affairs Forum\, was founded in the early 1980s as a nonprofit\, nonpartisan organization. The Council works to deepen our community’s global perspective through speaker programs\, discussion groups\, and educational experiences. The membership represents a cross-section of individuals from the business community\, academia\, government service\, and civic backgrounds. We welcome participants of all ages and from all backgrounds. SUMMARY:Republic and Empire // Andrew O'Shaughnessy
DESCRIPTION:Join us in partnership with the South Carolina Historical Society as we approach our country’s 250th anniversary — we have explored many different angles of the Revolution – those specific to South Carolina\, further narrowed to the Lowcountry\, the thirteen colonies as a whole\, and much\, much more. But what of the Loyalists? Those who didn’t stand up to British rule and supported the empire and its endeavors? We are highly anticipating the return of celebrated author and renowned historian Andrew O’Shaughnessy for his latest\, another perspective on the Revolutionary era – perhaps a more expanded context from what might be more broadly familiar. Joining O’Shaughnessy in conversation will be South Carolina Historical Society CEO\, Elizabeth Chew. \nIf you are unable to attend the event\, but would like to purchase one or more copies\, please visit Buxton Books here. \nPrior to the program\, we invite our Fellows Members to enjoy Happy Hour from 5:00 – 6:00 pm\, downstairs in the Dr. Suzan D. Boyd Fellows Club Lounge.  \nAbout the Book \nAt the time of the American Revolution (1765–83)\, the British Empire had colonies in India\, Africa\, the Caribbean\, the Pacific\, Canada\, Ireland\, and Gibraltar. The thirteen rebellious American colonies accounted for half of the total number of provinces in the British world in 1776. What of the loyal half? Why did some of Britain’s subjects feel so aggrieved that they wanted to establish a new system of government\, while others did not rebel? In this authoritative history\, Trevor Burnard and Andrew Jackson O’Shaughnessy show that understanding the long-term causes of the American Revolution requires a global view. As much as it was an event in the history of the United States\, the American Revolution was an imperial event produced by the upheavals of managing a far-flung set of imperial possessions during a turbulent period of reform. By looking beyond the familiar borders of the Revolution and considering colonies that did not rebel—Quebec\, Nova Scotia\, Bermuda\, India\, the British Caribbean\, Senegal\, and Ireland—Burnard and O’Shaughnessy go beyond the republican\, liberal\, and democratic aspects of the emerging American nation\, providing a broader history that transcends what we think we know about the Revolution. \nAbout the Author \nAndrew O’Shaughnessy is a distinguished historian and Professor of History at the University of Virginia. From 2003 to 2022\, he served as Vice President of The Thomas Jefferson Foundation (Monticello) and led the Robert H. Smith International Center for Jefferson Studies. A dual citizen of Britain and the United States\, O’Shaughnessy completed his undergraduate and doctoral degrees at Oxford University. His illustrious teaching career includes roles at Eton College\, Southern Methodist University\, and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh\, where he chaired the History department. O’Shaughnessy is the acclaimed author of The Men Who Lost America\, which won eight national awards\, including the George Washington Book Prize and the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Excellence in American History Book Award. His other notable works include An Empire Divided and The Illimitable Freedom of the Human Mind. A Fellow of the Royal Historical Society\, he also serves as an editor of the Jeffersonian America series. O’Shaughnessy has also co-edited The European Friends of the American Revolution\, which was published in 2023. His latest book\, which will be published by Yale early in 2025\, is co-authored with Trevor Burnard\, The American Revolution and the Crisis of the British Empire. O’Shaughnessy’s expertise and contributions make him a leading voice in American history. \nAbout Elizabeth Chew \nDr. Elizabeth Chew became CEO of the South Carolina Historical Society in January 2024. A public historian\, curator\, and educator\, she has worked at museums and historic sites for almost forty years. Prior to arriving in Charleston\, she served as Executive Vice President and Chief Curator at James Madison’s Montpelier in Orange\, Virginia and as Curator at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello in Charlottesville.\n\nShe received a BA from Yale University\, an MA from the University of London\, and Ph.D. from UNC- Chapel Hill.\nAbout The South Carolina Historical Society \nThe mission of the South Carolina Historical Society is to collect\, preserve\, and share the stories of all South Carolinians and use these stories–from significant historical events to everyday moments–to promote visibility\, understanding\, engagement\, and conversation. The story of South Carolina is the story of America. As such\, it reflects the achievements and the challenges\, the successes and the failures\, of the American experiment. As the only statewide\, private\, non-profit historical organization\, founded in 1855\, the South Carolina Historical Society seeks to be the preeminent interpreter of that history to the broadest possible audience. \nAbout SC 250 \nSC250 Charleston is intended to serve as an umbrella for Charleston-area community organizations\, governmental entities\, and business enterprises interested in conceiving\, building and sponsoring initiatives that commemorate the American Revolution and leading roles played by Charleston’s people and places. This program is sponsored (in part) by the South Carolina American Revolution Sestercentennial Commission. SC250 was established by the SC Legislature to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Revolutionary-Era and highlight the state’s significant role in securing America’s freedom by engaging and inspiring South Carolinians and visitors through heritage tourism\, rural economic impact initiatives\, and educational programs. Contents and opinions do not necessarily reflect the views or policies of SC250\, nor does the mention of trade names or commercial products constitute endorsement or recommendation by SC250.

SUMMARY:Bond Street REIT Speaker Series // Deepak Srivastava
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the first of this year’s Bond Street Series\, focused on the importance of cultural institutions in fostering creative conversation and enhancing opportunities for democratic engagement. Founder of Bond Street REIT\, Michael Reynolds\, will host a rare conversation with Special Guest Deepak Srivastava\, President of Gladstone Institutes in California\, and one of the nation’s leading physicians in the science and technology of stem cell research and opportunities to combat congenital heart disease. \nAbout Deepak Srivastava \nDeepak Srivastava\, MD\, is President of Gladstone Institutes\, a nonprofit biomedical research institute that uses visionary science and technology to overcome disease. He is also a senior investigator and director of the Roddenberry Stem Cell Center at Gladstone. In addition\, he is a professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Biochemistry and Biophysics\, and the Wilma and Adeline Pirag Distinguished Professor in pediatric developmental cardiology at UC San Francisco (UCSF). Srivastava received his MD from the University of Texas\, then trained in pediatrics at UCSF and in pediatric cardiology at the Children’s Hospital of Harvard Medical School. Before joining Gladstone in 2005\, Srivastava was a professor of pediatrics and molecular biology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He became Gladstone’s president in 2018\, and has since been steering the organization toward a new era of convergence between technology and biomedical research. In his lab\, Srivastava investigates the genes responsible for normal heart formation and congenital heart disease\, and harnesses this knowledge to engineer cells that can repair heart damage. Srivastava is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation\, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences\, the American Association for the Advancement of Science\, and the National Academy of Medicine. He served as president of the International Society for Stem Cell Research in 2019–2020. In addition\, Srivastava has co-founded two biotechnology companies\, iPierian Inc. and Tenaya Therapeutics\, where he continues to sit on the board of directors and on the scientific advisory board. Srivastava was recently recognized in the San Francisco Business Times’ Power 100 list for his leadership in business and research in the Bay Area. \nAbout the Bond Street REIT Speaker Series \nOrchestrated by Founder and Chief Executive Officer\, Michael D. Reynolds\, who passionately served as a member of the Board of Trustees and also Treasurer of the Charleston Library Society\, the Bond Street REIT Speaker Series strives to honor the institution’s cultural enrichment\, intellectual exploration\, and literary legacy through a series of lively discussions and thought-provoking lectures. Bond Street is dedicated to preserving the Charleston Library Society’s renowned collection and historical significance\, as an immensely valuable repository of history in the South. Bond Street Real Estate Investment Trust\, headquartered in Charleston\, is a private real estate investment trust uniquely invested in convenience retail centers across ten states in the Southeast. \nIn 1831\, Alexis de Tocqueville toured America and visited Charleston in search of the special ingredient that made America’s democracy so powerful. What he discovered was that the glue that created community and civic discourse was its profoundly thriving cultural institutions. Libraries\, theaters\, museums\, and other cultural spaces served as the foundation for civic engagement and public dialogue. This insight is as relevant today as it was then\, and the Library Society remains vibrant because of this very truth.

SUMMARY:When Generals Decide // MacArthur and Wainwright
DESCRIPTION:From the shores of the Philippines at the start of World War II came two men who knew only one thing – leave no man behind\, regardless of the cost. Douglas MacArthur and Jonathan Mayhew Wainwright star in The Fate of the Generals\, author and historian Jonathan Horn’s latest book of bravery and unwavering strength that is destined to become a classic of World War II history. Join Jonathan for a personal look at this story of war made uniquely personal\, through the meticulous research into diaries and letters\, including boxes of previously unexplored papers – a vivid account that raises timely questions about how we define honor and how we choose our heroes. \nIf you are unable to attend the event\, but would like to purchase one or more copies\, please visit Buxton Books. \nAbout the Book \nIn the tradition of Hampton Sides’s bestseller Ghost Soldiers comes a World War II story of bravery\, survival\, and sacrifice—the vow Douglas MacArthur made to return to the Philippines and the oath his fellow general Jonathan Mayhew Wainwright made to stay with his men there\, whatever the cost. For the doomed stand American forces made in the Philippines at the start of World War II\, two generals received their country’s highest military award\, the Medal of Honor. One was the charismatic and controversial Douglas MacArthur\, whose orders forced him to leave his soldiers on the islands to starvation and surrender\, but whose vow to return echoed around the globe. The other was the gritty Jonathan Mayhew Wainwright\, who became a hero to the troops whose fate he insisted on sharing even when it meant becoming the highest-ranking American prisoner of the Japanese. In The Fate of the Generals\, bestselling author Jonathan Horn brings together the story of two men who received the same medal but found honor on very different paths. MacArthur’s journey would require a daring escape with his wife and young child to Australia and then years of fighting over the thousands of miles needed to make it back to the Philippines\, where he would fulfill his famous vow only to see the city he called home burn. Wainwright’s journey would take him from the Philippines to Taiwan and Manchuria as his captors tortured him in prisons and left him to wonder whether his countrymen would ever understand the choice he had made to surrender for the sake of his men. \nAbout the Author \nJonathan Horn is an author and former White House presidential speechwriter whose books include Washington’s End and the Robert E. Lee biography The Man Who Would Not Be Washington\, which was a Washington Post bestseller. On April 15\, 2025\, Scribner published his newest book\, The Fate of the Generals: MacArthur\, Wainwright\, and the Epic Battle for the Philippines. Jonathan has written for outlets including The Wall Street Journal\, The Washington Post\, The New York Times Disunion series\, New York Post\, The Daily Beast\, National Review\, and POLITICO. He has appeared on CBS Sunday Morning\, CNN\, Fox News\, MSNBC\, and PBS NewsHour. During his time at the White House\, Jonathan served as a speechwriter and special assistant to President George W. Bush. A graduate of Yale University\, Jonathan now lives in Bethesda\, Maryland\, with his wife\, children\, and dog.

SUMMARY:CLS Wine Club // Whites of the Iberian Peninsula
DESCRIPTION:As the season warms\, CLS Wine Club\, created through members in our Fellows Lounge\, continues with great acclaim. with the academic and nuanced insights from our founding and beloved aficionados Jerry Mitchell and Tim Cantopher. Their learned preferences and curiosities from storied outings and clubs centered around the complexities of wine\, coupled with our partner\, The Wine Shop of Charleston\, allow just the right blend of lesser-known vineyards and small-production varietals blended with a bit of wit and wisdom\, to boot. Capacity is limited\, so please reserve your seat soon! The Spring series always focuses on a white varietal – this April we will explore the viticulture of the Iberian Peninsula! \nPlease Note: These wines are available in limited and time-sensitive quantities; therefore\, we must secure them ahead of time. For this reason\, your admission also includes one of each of the four bottles to take home. (Avg $35/bottle) For those who come as a couple\, there is an option for two people and four bottles. Seating is limited in order to host a conversation-style wine tasting where the experts will walk us through four specifically chosen bottles and dissect the nuance associated with each. Part of participating in the wine club is the opportunity to purchase wines that would otherwise not be available at retail. \nAbout The Wine Shop of Charleston \nThe Wine & Spirits Shop of Charleston has been a downtown destination for wine lovers for over three decades. Located at City Marina\, they have proudly served the Charleston community for 31 years\, building a reputation for quality\, expertise\, and personalized service. SUMMARY:Verdura and Belperron // Lasting Legacy
DESCRIPTION:Jewelry that stands the test of time. Join us to learn about the legacies of two master jewelers\, Duke Fulco di Verdura and Suzanne Belperron\, each of whom trace their start during 1920s Paris scene and continue to inspire today. Separately known for stand-out icons such as signature cuffs worn by Coco Chanel\, through to exclusive designs for clientele such as Elsa Schiaparelli\, the Duchess of Windsor and Diana Vreeland – the exquisite artistry behind the pieces is that to be studied and admired. We look forward to hosting Nico Landrigan\, the current President of both jewelry companies\, who continues to build and expand the legacies of each designer\, drawing from their rich archives of original sketches\, less than half of which have ever been realized.  \nAbout Verdura \nDuke Fulco di Verdura (1899–1978) began his career in 1920s Paris\, designing the iconic Maltese Cross Cuffs for his friend Coco Chanel. In 1934 Verdura ventured to America and designed jewels for stars of the era\, including Greta Garbo and Marlene Dietrich. He officially became an “American jeweler” on September 1\, 1939\, the day war broke out in Europe\, when his friends\, Cole Porter and Vincent Astor\, financed his debut on Fifth Avenue. With Europe off-limits during the war\, Verdura gained a following of high-profile clients among New York society and fashion’s best-dressed list\, enticed by Verdura’s bold yet understated “chic”. In 1985\, Ward Landrigan\, head of Sotheby’s US jewelry department\, purchased the company\, including its archive of nearly 10\,000 original sketches\, and set about to bring Verdura’s timeless designs to a new generation of collectors. His son Nico joined the company in 2004 and currently serves as President alongside Ward\, Verdura’s CEO. In 2014\, the company celebrated its 75th anniversary with a 3-month retrospective exhibition that attracted over 8\,000 attendees. Today\, in addition to its flagship salon located at 745 Fifth Avenue overlooking Central Park\, Verdura operates boutiques in Bergdorf Goodman\, select Neiman Marcus stores\, London Jewelers in Manhasset\, LI\, Greenleaf & Crosby by Win & Natalie Betteridge in Palm Beach\, Famille Jewelers in Greenwich\, Mindham Fine Jewelry in Toronto\, and Marissa Collection in Naples\, FL. \nAbout Belperron \nBelperron is a fine jeweler selling vintage jewelry and reprised designs by the late designer\, Suzanne Belperron (1900-1983). After beginning her career with Boivin in 1919\, Belperron pioneered a new aesthetic in jewelry:  sensual\, tactile and arrestingly modern. With influential clients such as Elsa Schiaparelli\, the Duchess of Windsor and Diana Vreeland\, Belperron is widely recognized as one of the most influential designers of the 20 th century. In 2015\, Belperron LLC opened its first flagship salon in over forty years on New York City’s Fifth Avenue\, designed by noted architect Daniel Romualdez. Bringing all of her work under one roof\, the Belperron salon features the largest selection of vintage Belperron\, many from important private collections from around the world. Today\, the Belperron collection\, created entirely from her archive of over 9\,300 gouache paintings and designs\, embodies the essence of Belperron’s aesthetic.  Nico Landrigan\, President of Verdura and Belperron\, is responsible for the revival of Madame Belperron’s work. His mission: to find and create bold and timeless jewelry that speaks to a new generation of jewelry collectors. \nAbout Nico Landrigan \nNico Landrigan is President of Verdura & Belperron\, two privately held fine jewelry houses headquartered in New York. He is responsible for both companies’ strategic business development\, initiating domestic and international expansion through the two distinct New York salons and various Verdura wholesale partnerships. His mission: to create bold and timeless jewelry that speaks to a new generation of jewelry lovers. A Manhattan native\, Nico grew up in the jewelry business alongside his father\, Ward Landrigan\, accompanying him on international stone-buying trips from an early age. Nico earned a bachelor’s degree from Brown University and served briefly in the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. In 2004\, Nico joined Ward at Verdura and began working closely with the professional team he now leads. In 2009\, the same year as the company’s 70th Anniversary\, Nico was appointed President of Verdura. In 2014\, Verdura celebrated its 75th anniversary with a retrospective exhibition\, The Power of Style\, curated by Carolina and Reinaldo Herrera and their daughter Patricia Lansing. The retrospective\, overseen by Nico\, received international news coverage\, including a segment on CBS Sunday Morning\, and attracted over 8\,000 attendees over three months. In 2015\, Nico re-launched Belperron\, the culmination of a 25-year project with his father. As part of the re-launch\, he and Ward Landrigan co-authored a critically acclaimed biography of Suzanne Belperron’s life and work\, Jewelry by Suzanne Belperron. Along with the revival of her jewelry designs and the new Belperron salon on Fifth Avenue\, the book pays tribute to one of the 20th century’s master jewelers. A collector of rocks and shells since the age of three\, Nico keeps a trained eye out for exceptional gemstones and one-of-a-kind vintage pieces to further develop Belperron and Verdura’s collections. This provides his clients the unique benefit of buying both new products and vintage pieces\, many of them from the finest private collections from around the world.
