SUMMARY:Mellon Interiors // Rendered Anew
DESCRIPTION:Known worldwide for her appreciation of arts and culture\, American philanthropist and aesthete Bunny Mellon’s signature imprint on interiors is yet again reinvigorated through a new compilation of never-before-seen renderings in The Enchanting Interiors of Bunny Mellon: Paintings by Snowy Campbell. We are honored to host a discussion with three of the key contributors to the book\, renowned designer Charlotte Moss and Sir Peter & Elinor Crane of the Oak Spring Garden Foundation\, who helped bring to life this wonderful project that Bunny commissioned and started\, but ultimately never saw to completion.  \nIf you are unable to attend the event\, but would like to purchase one or more copies\, please visit Buxton Books here. \nAbout the Book \nThe refined rooms of American philanthropist and aesthete Bunny Mellon (1910–2014)—interiors influential for their ability to combine magnificent collections of fine and decorative art with an ambiance of comfort and ease—were documented by artist Snowy Campbell\, a lasting tribute to Mellon’s impeccable taste. \nThe houses of Mellon and her husband\, Paul\, have become icons in the field of interior decoration\, filled with fine antiques\, blue-chip works of art (a Van Gogh left unframed and propped on a mantel)\, personal mementos\, and exquisite objets d’art\, all displayed in Mellon’s inimitably sophisticated yet charming way. Campbell was employed by Mellon in 1970 for six years\, just after college\, to document in paint several residences of the Mellons—presented here as a group for the first time. \nThis book presents Campbell’s paintings that capture the colors\, light\, and ambiance of rooms and gardens\, as well as intricate patterns and details of furnishings in spaces put together with help from renowned decorators John Fowler and Bruce Budd. Three residences—in New York City\, Washington\, DC\, and Upperville\, Virginia—are the focus\, with texts by society chronicler James Reginato describing Mellon’s decorating style and the ways the Mellons used each property. Opening the doors to a life of superb connoisseurship\, this volume is an homage to the interiors of a renowned couple and the extraordinary work of a young artist. \nAbout Sir Peter Crane FRS \nPeter Crane is President of the Oak Spring Garden Foundation in Virginia (osgf.org)\, an estate of Rachel Lambert Mellon that includes an exquisite garden as well as an exceptional library focused on the history of plant science\, plant exploration\, and the development of gardens and landscape design. Previously Dean of the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies and Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens\, Kew\, he is known internationally for his work on the diversity of plant life – its origin\, fossil history\, current status\, conservation\, and use. \nAbout Elinor Crane \nSince 2016\, Elinor Crane has worked as a volunteer at the Oak Spring Garden Foundation\, contributing to numerous public engagement initiatives\, as well as undertaking archival and inventory research. Her work has been featured in Smithsonian Magazine and by The White House Historical Association. She advocated for the publication of the Snowy Campbell watercolors commissioned by Mrs Mellon\, and undertook much of the research included in The Enchanting Interiors of Bunny Mellon. \n\nAbout Charlotte Moss \nSince launching her eponymous firm in 1985\, Charlotte’s name has become synonymous with Southern warmth and hospitality. She has designed private residences and executive suites across the United States and abroad\, and her retail stores have achieved wide acclaim. She has used her experience culled throughout her career to design licensed collections with Century Furniture\, Fabricut\, Stark Carpet\, Pickard\, P.E. Guerin\, Soicher-Marin\, IBU Clothing\, Artemis Design Company and more\, and her work is celebrated across eleven volumes\, the most recent title with Rizzoli publications: Charlotte Moss Flowers (2021) and Home: A Celebration: Notable Voices Reflect on the Meaning of Home (2021) which benefits the non-profit\, No Kid Hungry. Charlotte supports a variety of causes and sits on several boards; she is Emerita Trustee of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation at Monticello\, on the Board of The Bone Marrow Foundation\, The Madoo Conservancy\, The Garden Conservancy\, and the International Council of Hillwood Estate\, Museum and Gardens. Charlotte’s designs have been featured in many major publications. Accolades include the New York School of Interior Design’s Centennial Medal\, The Royal Oak Foundation’s Timeless Design award\, and Elle Décor’s Grand Master’s Listof Designers.Charlotte holds an Honorary Doctorate Degree from The New York School of Interior Design as well as Virginia Commonwealth University\, her alma mater.

SUMMARY:Six Decades of USAID
DESCRIPTION:USAID was established by President John F. Kennedy in 1961 to unify America’s foreign aid programs and deliver benefits both abroad and at home. Internationally as well as in South Carolina\, the agency’s work created tangible economic value. With the agency now largely closed and the future of foreign aid uncertain\, we are thrilled to host a panel of former USAID professionals from the Charleston area to share insights about the inner workings of the organization and how things were implemented on the partner side\, as well as what foreign aid could look like in our future. Moderated by author and journalist Adam Parker\, the panel consists of five USAID alumni: Robbie Harris\, strategic communications expert; John Simpkins\, former general counsel; Brady Anderson\, former director; Carmen Buero Conley\, international development specialist; and Julie Grier-Villatte\, strategist and global operations leader. Together\, they will examine a legacy of foreign policies and practices that spanned six decades. \nPrior to the program\, we invite our Fellows Members to enjoy Happy Hour from 5:00 – 6:00 pm\, downstairs in the Dr. Suzan D. Boyd Fellows Club Lounge.  \nAbout Robbie Harris \nRobbie Harris is a strategic communications and behavior change subject matter expert with over 25 years’ experience in Iraq\, Syria\, the Sahel\, and Central America\, working with local influencers\, activists\, civil society organizations\, journalists\, and senior stakeholders to design and implement strategies and communications campaigns that ignite and drive social movements. Her strategies utilize the intersectionality of traditional and digital communications and face-to-face human engagement and action to reduce the influence of and enable resilience to mis and disinformation and violent extremism; catalyze personal agency amongst youth; mitigate the polarization and marginalization that leads to conflict and violence; and promote women’s involvement in decision making. Ms. Harris has designed and implemented programs for the US Department of State\, US Agency for International Development\, the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office. She holds an M.A. in Arab Studies from Georgetown University \nAbout John Simpkins \nJohn L. S. Simpkins is a Senior Moderator with the Aspen Institute. He is the former President and CEO of MDC\, an organization working on behalf of racial equity and economic mobility in the South. Previously\, he served as VP Aspen Global Leadership Network at the Aspen Institute. Prior to that\, he was an executive with Prisma Health\, where he led collaborative\, evidence-based efforts to promote health innovation\, access\, and equity. He is also a Senior Lecturer at Duke Law School. John was appointed to the Senior Executive Service in the Obama Administration\, where he served as general counsel for the U.S. Agency for International Development and deputy general counsel for the White House Office of Management and Budget. Before joining the government\, he was of counsel with Wyche\, P.A.\, visiting assistant professor of law at the University of Victoria\, and an assistant professor at Charleston School of Law. He continues to work as a consultant and researcher in comparative constitutional law and constitutional design. John received his AB in government from Harvard College and a JD and LLM in international and comparative law from Duke University School of Law. He is a Fellow of the fourth class of the Liberty Fellowship. \nAbout Brady Anderson \nA native of Helena\, Arkansas\, Brady Anderson graduated from Rhodes College and entered the US Navy as an officer on board a US Destroyer. After service in Vietnam\, he and his wife\, Betty\, graduated from the University of Arkansas School of Law. He served on Bill Clinton’s staff in the Arkansas Attorney General’s office and in the Governor’s office. He and Betty spent many years in East Africa\, where they conducted sociolinguistic research in a dozen African languages for the Wycliffe Bible Translators. In 1994\, then-President Bill Clinton appointed Brady to be the U.S. ambassador to Tanzania from 1994 to 1997. The embassy was destroyed by a terrorist bomb in 1998. He served as the Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) from 1999 to 2001. His priorities as USAID Administrator included democracy promotion and economic growth in the Balkans and the Middle East\, and improving public understanding of U.S. foreign assistance. He is currently on the board of Metanoia\, a community development nonprofit in North Charleston\, and Empower Charleston. The Andersons reside in Mt. Pleasant\, SC. They have two daughters and four grandchildren. \n About Carmen Buero Conley \nCarmen Buero Conley is a native Charlestonian and graduate of the College of Charleston\, who entered the field of international development more than 20 years ago. She has worked for a government contractor and non-profit organizations that received significant funding from the US Agency for International Development (USAID)\, as well as for the United Nations. Her specialty was ensuring that government systems functioned such that countries could generate more local funding and better service delivery for basic health\, education\, and water\, in places such as Afghanistan\, Pakistan\, and Nigeria. With a Master’s Degree in Conflict Resolution\, she worked to help stabilize countries prone to conflict\, to mitigate the emergence of global disasters that could lead to mass suffering\, and also put pressure on the US to intervene. \nAbout Julie Grier-Villatte \nJulie brings over 20 years of experience in community development\, with a strong focus on child protection\, mental health\, and local capacity building. Her work has taken her across the U.S. and around the world—from hands-on support for kids and families to shaping international development policy as a U.S. Foreign Service Officer in seven countries. She has extensive experience with building high-performing teams\, strategic planning and implementation\, and change management. Julie’s approach is all about meeting people where they are\, building on their strengths\, and creating space for healing and growth. She’s known for her warmth\, creativity\, and deep commitment to making a difference\, especially in places that have faced adversity. She holds degrees in Psychology and French (College of Charleston)\, International Security Studies (University of St. Andrews)\, and Public Policy and Development (Maastricht Graduate School of Governance). Julie speaks English\, French\, Spanish\, and Haitian Creole. Outside of work\, Julie loves reading\, laughing with her son\, spending time in nature\, and has a great story about being attacked by peacocks (yep!). \nAbout Adam Parker – Moderator \nAdam Parker earned two degrees in music\, then spent a decade in the business world before going back to school for a graduate degree in journalism from Columbia University. At The Post and Courier\, he has worked on several beats over the years\, including religion\, education\, the arts\, and\, most recently\, race and history. Today\, he edits the climate and education teams. A long-time student of the civil rights movement and race in America\, he has written extensively about the African-American experience. He is the author of the biography “Outside Agitator: The Civil Rights Struggle of Cleveland Sellers Jr.\,” published by Hub City Press\, and “Us: A Journalist’s Look at the Culture\, Conflict\, and Creativity of the South\,” published by Evening Post Books.

SUMMARY:Maritime Power Before the Making of America
DESCRIPTION:Join early American historian Benjamin C. Schaffer who reveals a number of lesser-known truths about America’s earliest naval forces in his new book\, The First Fleets: Colonial Navies of the British Atlantic World\, 1630-1775. As both factual resource and engrossing narrative\, the book provides insight into the newly established British colonies of pre-Revolutionary America\, and the foundations of maritime trade that led to the powerhouse navy we know today. Intertwined with major political and military dynamics of the time\, historians and military enthusiasts alike won’t want to miss this opportunity to dive deeper into America’s first fleets. \nThe ticket price below includes a boxed lunch for you to enjoy during the program. \nIf you are unable to attend the event but would like to purchase one or more signed copies\, please visit Buxton Books here. \nAbout the Book \nA revealing study on the little-known and misunderstood provincial navies established by North American British colonists. In The First Fleets\, Benjamin C. Schaffer reveals how\, contrary to widespread beliefs\, the American colonies had a long tradition of independent naval defense decades before the Revolution. He demonstrates that Anglo-American governments established and maintained significant provincial naval forces and that the history of provincial navies illuminates broader aspects of colonial history and the colonies’ ultimate break with the British Crown. Based on meticulous research\, Schaffer recounts the sea-borne threats that American colonies faced from the French\, Spanish\, pirates\, and others. He reviews colonial governance and the relationships between colonial governments and Great Britain. Highlighting Britain’s scant naval power in North America\, Schaffer demonstrates how the vulnerable coastal colonies undertook their own self-defense. Schaffer’s readable study offers many fascinating episodes from colonial history. Establishing a navy was controversial in pacifist-minded\, Quaker-dominated Pennsylvania. South Carolina deployed its scout-boat navy to pursue enslaved Africans who fled colonial capture. The first paper money issued in North America was an initiative to pay for a naval expedition against French Quebec in 1690. These and other episodes show the intimate connection between these little-known provincial navies and the major sociopolitical developments of their day. The First Fleets will be of great interest to historians and readers of early American history\, particularly colonial maritime and naval activities. Readers interested in the political and military dynamics of pre-Revolutionary America\, as well as enthusiasts of naval history and maritime trade\, will find The First Fleets both a valuable resource and an engrossing narrative. \nAbout the Author \n\n\nBenjamin Schaffer is a historian of early American history\, with a special focus on maritime conflict and society in the British Atlantic world of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. He has a Ph.D. In early American/Atlantic-world history from the University of New Hampshire (2021). His doctoral research inspired my first book (which is set to be published in early 2025 with the University of Alabama Press): The First Fleets: Colonial Navies of the British Atlantic World\, 1630-1775. This book investigates how Anglo-American naval efforts against European\, piratical\, and Indigenous maritime threats informed the development of the American naval tradition on the eve of the American Revolution. Overall\, his research is not limited to traditional military history studies alone\, but considers the wider connections between maritime conflict and larger socio-political issues in the Atlantic world\, including diplomacy\, slavery\, the economy\, etc. In addition to this book\, he has published work (or has articles in press) at The Northern Mariner and The South Carolina Historical Magazine. He also regularly presents research at conferences such as the McMullen Naval History Conference at the United States Naval Academy\, the North American Society for Oceanic History\, and many others.

SUMMARY:'Malice in Wonderland' // Hugo Vickers on Cecil Beaton
DESCRIPTION:Visiting from the UK\, author and renowned speaker Hugo Vickers brings us Malice in Wonderland\, an investigation into the whirlwind life of the photographer\, diarist\, painter\, interiors and costume designer that was Sir Cecil Walter Hardy Beaton. Cecil Beaton invited Hugo Vickers to be his authorized biographer only days before his unexpected passing. Undeterred\, Vickers used diaries\, letters\, and precious friendships and connections in Beaton’s circle to compose\, in paper\, the story of this life well-lived. For five years\, Vickers travelled the world and talked to some of the most fascinating and important social and cultural figures of the time\, including royalty such as the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret\, Lady Diana Cooper\, Grace Kelly\, Audrey Hepburn\, Truman Capote\, Irving Penn and Diana Vreeland. As part of our ongoing partnership with The Royal Oaks Foundation\, we look forward to this special reflection and a personal exploration of the a legacy of a man enveloped by a disappearing era of glamour. \nIf you are unable to attend the event\, but would like to purchase one or more copies\, please visit Buxton Books. \nAbout the Book \nThe witty and perceptive diaries kept by Cecil Beaton’s authorized biographer during his many fascinating encounters with extraordinary—often legendary—characters in his search for the real Cecil Beaton. Vickers was entrusted with Beaton’s papers\, diaries\, and\, most importantly\, access to his friends and contemporaries. In Malice in Wonderland\, Vickers shares excerpts from his personal diaries kept during this period. Drawn into Beaton’s world and accepted by its members\, Vickers\, the emerging biographer\, also began his own personal adventure. The outsider became the insider – Beaton’s friends became his friends. Malice in Wonderland is a fascinating portrait of a now-disappeared world\, and vividly and sensitively portrays some of its most fascinating characters as we travel with Vickers on his quest. \nAbout the Author \nHugo Vickers is well known as a biographer\, lecturer\, and broadcaster\, and is an acknowledged expert on the Royal Family. His first book was about Gladys Deacon\, Duchess of Marlborough (1881-1977)\, in whom he became interested when he was 16 years old. When he was 23\, he found the Duchess in the psycho-geriatric ward of a mental hospital and talked to her for two years until her death at the age of 96. He researched in Europe and America and published Gladys\, Duchess of Marlborough in 1979. Because there was considerably more material available 40 years on\, he revised this book for a new edition\, published in 2020\, as The Sphinx (and paperback in 2021). It received positive reviews. Hugo is called upon to comment on important state occasions and at times when the Royal Family is in the news. He has covered events from the first wedding of the Prince of Wales\, many royal weddings\, and the funerals of Diana\, the Queen Mother\, Prince Philip\, the State Funeral and Committal of The Queen\, and the Coronation of Charles III. The Financial Times has described him as: ‘the most knowledgeable royal biographer on the planet.’ When he spent an hour with Jacqueline Onassis in her office at Doubleday in 1990\, she said to him: ‘You look like a poet\, but your head must be full of information.’ Hugo has written many biographies of 20th century figures\, including Cecil Beaton\, Vivien Leigh\, the Duchess of Windsor\, Princess Andrew of Greece\, and the Queen Mother. His book\, The Quest for Queen Mary\, sold 40\,000 copies in various forms. He attacked the sixty episodes of the Netflix series The Crown in his book\, The Crown Dissected\, available as an e-book. In May 2021\, he published Malice in Wonderland\, with extracts from his own diaries about researching the life of Cecil Beaton. A year later\, he published a book with HRH The Duke of Kent\, entitled A Royal Life. In 2023\, he updated his 2013 book\, Coronation\, and has lectured about the Coronation in London\, New York\, Washington\, Boston\, San Francisco\, and Sonoma. That year\, he gave 44 lectures\, with four trips to the USA. Hugo published his first novel\, Pining in Paradise\, a study of the super-rich on holiday at the Cipriani Hotel in Venice in 2024. Later that year\, he published his biography of Clarissa\, Countess of Avon (widow of Anthony Eden). When not writing\, Hugo travels through the Commonwealth and Overseas Territories\, establishing Commonwealth Walkways\, and as such has visited many countries from Australia\, New Zealand\, and Canada\, to the Cook Islands\, the Falklands\, and\, as he puts it\, was once obliged to spend seven weeks touring the Caribbean. In July 2022\, Prince Edward unveiled the Platinum Jubilee Walkway in Birmingham. Queen Elizabeth II visited the Walkways eight times when he was Chairman. Hugo is a Deputy Lieutenant for the Royal County of Berkshire and has been involved with the College of St George since February 1966. He is Captain of the Lay Stewards of St George’s Chapel\, Windsor Castle\, having served as a Lay Steward since 1970. In 2019\, he was appointed a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society. Hugo has lectured in the UK\, the USA\, Australia\, France\, Italy\, Denmark and the Bahamas – in the King’s Gallery at Buckingham Palace\, at Windsor Castle\, in Marlborough House\, Kensington Palace\, St James’s Palace\, Spencer House\, Blenheim Palace\, and the British Embassy in Paris – as well as on board transatlantic liners and many a village hall. He appeared frequently on Larry King Live between 1997 and 2005\, and had his Andy Warhol moment of fame when he appeared with Stephen Colbert in his programme\, My Fair Colbert\, about the 2011 royal wedding. He lives in London and Wiltshire and has three grown-up children. When possible\, he disappears to a tree house in Dominica. \nAbout the Royal Oak Foundation \nThe Royal Oak Foundation seeks to raise awareness of and advance the work of the National Trust of England\, Wales\, and Northern Ireland by inspiring support from the United States for the Trust’s efforts to preserve
and protect historic places and spaces—forever\, for everyone. SUMMARY:Bond Street REIT Speaker Series // Deepak Srivastava
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the first of this year’s Bond Street Series\, focused on the importance of cultural institutions in fostering creative conversation and enhancing opportunities for democratic engagement. Founder of Bond Street REIT\, Michael Reynolds\, will host a rare conversation with Special Guest Deepak Srivastava\, President of Gladstone Institutes in California\, and one of the nation’s leading physicians in the science and technology of stem cell research and opportunities to combat congenital heart disease. \nAbout Deepak Srivastava \nDeepak Srivastava\, MD\, is President of Gladstone Institutes\, a nonprofit biomedical research institute that uses visionary science and technology to overcome disease. He is also a senior investigator and director of the Roddenberry Stem Cell Center at Gladstone. In addition\, he is a professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Biochemistry and Biophysics\, and the Wilma and Adeline Pirag Distinguished Professor in pediatric developmental cardiology at UC San Francisco (UCSF). Srivastava received his MD from the University of Texas\, then trained in pediatrics at UCSF and in pediatric cardiology at the Children’s Hospital of Harvard Medical School. Before joining Gladstone in 2005\, Srivastava was a professor of pediatrics and molecular biology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He became Gladstone’s president in 2018\, and has since been steering the organization toward a new era of convergence between technology and biomedical research. In his lab\, Srivastava investigates the genes responsible for normal heart formation and congenital heart disease\, and harnesses this knowledge to engineer cells that can repair heart damage. Srivastava is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation\, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences\, the American Association for the Advancement of Science\, and the National Academy of Medicine. He served as president of the International Society for Stem Cell Research in 2019–2020. In addition\, Srivastava has co-founded two biotechnology companies\, iPierian Inc. and Tenaya Therapeutics\, where he continues to sit on the board of directors and on the scientific advisory board. Srivastava was recently recognized in the San Francisco Business Times’ Power 100 list for his leadership in business and research in the Bay Area. \nAbout the Bond Street REIT Speaker Series \nOrchestrated by Founder and Chief Executive Officer\, Michael D. Reynolds\, who passionately served as a member of the Board of Trustees and also Treasurer of the Charleston Library Society\, the Bond Street REIT Speaker Series strives to honor the institution’s cultural enrichment\, intellectual exploration\, and literary legacy through a series of lively discussions and thought-provoking lectures. Bond Street is dedicated to preserving the Charleston Library Society’s renowned collection and historical significance\, as an immensely valuable repository of history in the South. Bond Street Real Estate Investment Trust\, headquartered in Charleston\, is a private real estate investment trust uniquely invested in convenience retail centers across ten states in the Southeast. \nIn 1831\, Alexis de Tocqueville toured America and visited Charleston in search of the special ingredient that made America’s democracy so powerful. What he discovered was that the glue that created community and civic discourse was its profoundly thriving cultural institutions. Libraries\, theaters\, museums\, and other cultural spaces served as the foundation for civic engagement and public dialogue. This insight is as relevant today as it was then\, and the Library Society remains vibrant because of this very truth.

SUMMARY:The Revolution's Bravest General
DESCRIPTION:As a Brigadier General in the French Army\, Major General in the American Revolutionary Army and a French-American liaison during a time of incredible upheaval\, German-native Johann de Kalb led an amazing life\, but his legacy is lesser known than Revolutionary counterparts such as the Marquis de Lafayette\, to whom he may have been a mentor. With a focus on these less publicized leaders in the fight for independence\, and thanks to our ongoing partnership with the N.C. Zeitgeist Foundation\, author and historian John Beakes will enlighten us on the lasting impact of General de Kalb during the American Revolution. \nAbout John Beakes \nJohn Beakes graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1966 and served in nuclear submarines until 1974. He then began a career of executive leadership in technology service companies\, from which he retired in 2021. His five books on the Revolutionary War have focused on little-known combat leaders in America’s fight for independence. He co-authored “Cool\, Deliberate Courage: John Eager Howard in the American Revolution” and “‘Light Horse Harry Lee’ in the War for Independence” with Dr. Jim Piecuch. He then completed “Otho Holland Williams in the American Revolution” in 2015 and “De Kalb: One of the Revolutionary War’s Bravest Generals” in 2019. In 2022\, he completed “William Campbell in the American Revolution: Commander of Riflemen at Kings Mountain and Guilford Courthouse.” These books have brought forth the stories of how these largely unknown military leaders made important contributions to the American victory in the Revolutionary War. \nAbout The N.C. Zeitgeist Foundation: \nThe N.C. Zeitgeist Foundation was founded by Klaus Becker\, then Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany to North Carolina. The mission of the Foundation is reflected in its name\, Zeitgeist\, which means the “Spirit of the Time\,” is to inform\, educate\, and foster dialogue about the influence in the Carolinas of the current and historic culture\, arts\, society\, and spirit of Germany and Europe in celebrating their deep-rooted ties to the United States. Its mission is to strengthen transatlantic partnerships through cultural exchange\, business collaboration\, and shared innovation. By connecting communities across North Carolina and Germany\, we foster understanding\, economic opportunity\, and artistic inspiration on both sides of the Atlantic. In recognition of the long-standing German/European-American transatlantic relationship\, the program of the Foundation focuses on the exchange of societal and governmental thought and theory\, art exhibitions\, and cultural and social events. Since its inception in 2014\, The N.C. Zeitgeist Foundation has strongly supported economic development and growth in the Greater Charlotte Region\, including initiatives to brand and promote the Carolinas as a premier US location for international business\, trade\, and investment. \nAbout SC 250 \nSC250 Charleston is intended to serve as an umbrella for Charleston-area community organizations\, governmental entities\, and business enterprises interested in conceiving\, building and sponsoring initiatives that commemorate the American Revolution and leading roles played by Charleston’s people and places. This program is sponsored (in part) by the South Carolina American Revolution Sestercentennial Commission. SC250 was established by the SC Legislature to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Revolutionary-Era and highlight the state’s significant role in securing America’s freedom by engaging and inspiring South Carolinians and visitors through heritage tourism\, rural economic impact initiatives\, and educational programs. Contents and opinions do not necessarily reflect the views or policies of SC250\, nor does the mention of trade names or commercial products constitute endorsement or recommendation by SC250.
